“Coca-Cola Route” – The Only Hut Route
Day 1: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut (2,700m)
Start your climb through rich rainforest. This path is well-maintained with gradual slopes. Arrive at Mandara Hut and optionally visit Maundi Crater in the afternoon.
Day 2: Mandara to Horombo Hut (3,720m)
Exit the forest into moorland with views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Watch for giant groundsels and other unique plants. Reach Horombo Hut, your home for the next two nights.
Day 3: Acclimatization Day at Horombo
Optional hike to Zebra Rocks (4,000m) for acclimatization. Return to Horombo for relaxation and preparation for higher altitude. Highly recommended for increasing summit success.
Day 4: Horombo to Kibo Hut (4,700m)
Cross the barren alpine desert to Kibo Hut. This base camp is cold and windy. Have an early dinner and rest before your midnight summit push.
Day 5: Kibo to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Down to Horombo Hut
Begin summit attempt around midnight. The trail is tough and steep but manageable with slow pace and support. Reach the summit, take your photos, and begin the long descent back to Horombo Hut.
Day 6: Horombo to Marangu Gate – Transfer to Arusha/Moshi
Complete your final descent through moorland and rainforest. Receive your certificate at the gate and celebrate your climb with a return to town.
